You Cannot Out Give the Giver

You Cannot Out Give the Giver
The Priests of the Sacred Heart always look forward to meeting with donors whose generosity makes possible our ministry to the poor.

That is why gatherings are held across the nation. Coming together for a chat or a prayer service deepens the blessed partnership between benefactors and our Priests and Brothers and allows for a more personal expression of gratitude. It also encourages the SCJs. Meeting the people who support them makes it so clear how important the Church is in their lives.

Take George and Ofelia, for example. They first met with the Priests of the Sacred Heart in Houston and later again in their hometown of San Antonio, where they celebrated 55 years of marriage. In San Antonio the couple also shared their decision to provide for the Priests of the Sacred Heart and their ministries in their estate plans.

"We love to serve the Lord; we love the Church," said Ofelia.

"You don't give the Lord leftovers," adds her husband, George. "You give Him the best."

You Cannot Out Give the GiverGeorge and Ofelia’s earliest association with the Priests of the Sacred Heart of the Sacred Heart was through memorial enrolments for deceased friends and relatives. "Flowers are for the living," Ofelia points out. "I feel what most of us need are prayers."

Faith is essential to their lives. They pray to the Sacred Heart every morning, and pray the Rosary every night. Their shared devotion has been an important part of their successful marriage.

The couple is blessed to have two daughters and a grandson. They are grateful that with wise estate planning it will be possible to provide both for their family and for the poor of the world. They are pleased to be able to include a bequest to the Priests of the Sacred Heart in their wills.

While both George and Ofelia have given much to the Church during their lifetime, they focus on the abundant blessings they have received. George sums it up simply. "You cannot out give the Giver."

Humbled by the generosity of George and Ofelia and that of so many of our benefactors, the Priests of the Sacred Heart established the Good Steward Society to serve those donors who have made a commitment to assist our Priests and Brothers through a remembrance in their estate plan.

When deciding on how to have your estate distributed, we advise you to first consider your family members or loved ones who may need your support. While we hope you will provide assistance for our work, we do not wish your bequest to leave dependents in a state of need.

As with any major financial decision, we suggest you contact your attorney, accountant or financial planner for advice specific to your situation.
